Everything Under His Stars

Thoughts. Learning. Experiences. Encounter.

Am I Not Enough?

“I’m here. Is it not enough?”

She closed her eyes.

“Breathe in, breathe out. You got this.”, she told herself.

Barefooted, she felt the ground under her feet. Cold and rough. With her hair loose, she can feel the strong gust of wind around her, blowing strands of hair on her face.

“Hmm, storm.”, she thought.

She was still for a while as the lightning flashed before her. She knew it was close because the light illuminated through her eyelids. A few seconds after, she heard the expected loud thunder echoing above her. She inhaled and exhaled again and slowly opened her eyes.

There it was. She was standing on a path, but she cannot see what was ahead because of the thick fog surrounding her. She has nothing besides the dress she was wearing, a white dress that was ripped and stained.

“How far have I come?” she wondered.

She looked back and saw her own set of footsteps, the long winding road behind her, and the memories that still linger with every step. Still with her head, looking back, she closed her eyes again and immediately remembered everything – all the tears, the detours, the pain, the confusions, and the never-ending cycle of highs and lows.

“I’m holding you at this very moment. Please stop looking back. I’m here. Is it not enough?”

She heard the whisper again. As she opened her eyes, a tear fell from her left eye and she immediately wiped it with her hand. She turned her head and looked far away into the thick fog in front of her. Hours passed as she tried to see what’s ahead of her but, she cannot see a thing.

“I can’t do this. I’m all alone in this journey and I’m so tired already. I can’t take one more step.” She thought as tears start to fall from her eyes.

“I’m here. I’m beside you.”

She wanted to be brave. She badly wanted to take the step and just venture into the uncertainty before her.

But questions and doubts lingered in her head. Fear was starting to creep in and frustrations started to whisper in her head.

“I need to know. I need to know where I should place my feet. I need to know if this is the path that I should take. I need to know if what’s ahead of me is actually the place you want me to be.” she said.

She covered her face with her hands and cried. As she sobbed, lightning and thunder raged above her. The winds started to howl and the trees around her rustled violently. It was a heavy downpour and the storm roared. The tears kept falling as the noise around started to drown her.

Frustrated. Scared. Tired. Hopeless. She was on the verge of giving up.

But amidst the noise, she heard a gentle whisper.

“The only thing you need to know at this very moment is that I am here.

I’m with you.

Is it not enough?

Am I not enough?”

When Facing a Difficult Situation…

Ever had that experience where everything seems to be falling apart? When no matter how hard you try, things don’t end up the way you think they should?

The moment when you thought after graduating college, you will immediately reach your goals and get your dream job but after a few years, you’re still stuck at where you are. Or when the time when you needed finances to help your family but you don’t have any. Or the struggle of smiling just to hide the pain of having your heart broken.

I did. We all do.

We cannot deny the fact that we will experience situations where we will get discouraged and disappointed to the point of going inside our own spaces, locking ourselves in, and wonder, “What happened? Why did this happen?”

Hey, this might sound cliche and you might have heard this a couple of times already but allow me to remind you that whenever you are facing a difficult situation that makes you worry and scared, there is a way out of that – it is through someone who is greater than your circumstances. It is through God.

I say this because I believe that God does exists. Why am I so sure of this? Look around you. Look at the sky, the ocean, the mountains, the forests, the creatures, the people – can mere coincidence create something so complex as those things? I think not. He created and prepared the universe first before He created man to show the man that He exists, to show us His glory. He created everything, even the situation we are in for us to see Him.

God allows the situation, whether good or bad because He has a purpose for it – to show you His might and power, that He is the Redeemer. He wants to show you His saving power in the impossible and how He works in your life. He want to make it known to you that He is there with you, waiting for you to call and run to Him.

His ways are higher. And after reading the His words (Bible) and observing His ways, I can see that He allows desperate situations because He has a plan for it. He allowed a man to be blind from birth to show us that He is our healer. He allowed Sarah and Abraham to make mistakes for us to see how faithful He is in His promises and word. He allowed Joseph to be rejected by his brothers to show that He is the provider and redeemer.

I don’t know the situation you are in right now but don’t be afraid, there were people who were in the same situation as you. And guess what – their situation was used by God to let you know that He got this.

Yes, things do happen and most of the time, we can’t control it. Yes, we can control the choices we make, but never the result of that choice. However, there is one other thing that we can control, though – our response to the situation.

So, how should we respond when we face difficult situations? Should we rely on our own capabilities or do we choose to trust the one who created everything?

If you ask me, I’d choose to do just like what the characters in the Bible did. The blind man called out to Him in desperation. Sarah and Abraham kept their faith. Joseph obeyed and honored Him in everything. All of them chose to depend on Him for that is the only sure thing they can do.

You may not understand why certain things turned out that way but one thing is for sure, our God is sovereign. He was there in the beginning and He already sees the end. While we are still walking on this road called life, He is there, cheering us to take it one step at a time because He is already there.

And while all of these are happening, we know that God is good and that we can trust Him that everything happens for a reason.

Everything happens for His glory.

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. (ESV)

Jeremiah 29:11

Worth Keeping

“Are you sure you are a keeper?”

Lately, I keep hearing this thought in my head. It’s as if there is a little voice inside that keeps on throwing negative thoughts at me. And I can’t seem to help but wonder, Am I worth keeping? Do people actually see me as a keeper? Do I have the qualities that makes someone want to keep me?

As I was on the verge of believing the lies and deceits that the prince of this world bombards me with, I came across Psalm 121. I read the whole chapter and I was stunned.

I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come? My help comes from the LORD, who made heaven and earth. He will not let your foot be moved; he who keeps you will not slumber. Behold, he who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. The LORD is your keeper; the LORD is your shade on your right hand. The sun shall not strike you by day, nor the moon by night. The LORD will keep you from all evil; he will keep your life. The LORD will keep your going out and your coming in from this time forth and forevermore. (Psalm 121 ESV)

The enemy tried to convince me that I am worthless, that no one would want to keep me, that I am not enough.

But, that’s not true.

The Alpha and Omega, the First and the last, the Beginning and the End, the Creator of the universe – the stars, the galaxies, the nebulae, every living and non-living creature my eyes can set upon – says that I am worth it. .

And so are you.

Sometimes, questions and doubts about our worth can’t be prevented. As we are still living inside this dark-filled world, the enemy would try to steal, kill and destroy. It wants us to believe that we are not loved, that we are useless, that we are nothing. He can trick our hearts and minds to think that we are not good enough  and that we still have to do something for people to accept us – to keep us.

STOP listening to those lies and deceits.

Instead, choose to believe what the psalmist wrote – The Lord is your keeper. He is holding you, at this very moment, inside the palm of His hands. He promised that He will not let you be astray. He will not let your feet be moved. He will help you and will keep you from all evil. He is telling you right now that He fearfully and wonderfully made you. He designed and created you in such a way that the all of God’s creation smiled when you were born. The Lord chooses to keep you because He loves you.

The God who created you is good. You’re enough. You’re amazing. You have everything you need to fight the battles of life simply because the One who created you is good.

God wants you to know that He keeps you and He loves keeping you. He wants you to know that you are worth it.

And He wants you to know that “Yes, you are a keeper.” 🙂
